Overview

The American Riichi Association is the governing board for riichi mahjong in the United States. Originally founded in 2016 as NARMA (North American Riichi Mahjong Association) after the concept originated at the 2015 NYC International Riichi Open, the organization managed riichi for all of North America until Canada split off to form Riichi Canada in 2019. In April 2024, it was rebranded to the American Riichi Association following a community vote. They certify and issue guidance for clubs hosting tournaments, support clubs aiming to grow their player bases, and manage the USA player selection process for the World Riichi Championship (WRC).
